United States Competes Well In The Digital Market
As one of the largest and most innovative countries in the world, it is no wonder that the USA is ahead of most of it’s peers in technology. These days everything is going digital, and the USA is certainly not behind. From digital cameras and DVD recorders through to televisions and phones, the USA is going digital-crazy!
A survey conducted in 2007 showed that 3 out of 4 Americans had a digital product on their wish list. Thirty five percent of these people wanted a high definition flat screen television. In this article we will look at some of the digital products that are available in the USA.
Firstly we shall look at high definition televisions (HDTV). These days many Americans are purchasing HDTV’s as the quality of the picture and sound is immensely better than their analogue predecessors. Most of the main television channels in the USA now offer HD programming, such as ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and PBS amongst others. There are many different brands of HDTV’s such as Panasonic, Sony, and Samsung. The most recent survey shows that over 28% of Americans have an HDTV, although not all use the HD capabilities except for watching DVDs.
One of the next most in-demand digital products in the USA are laptop computers. Twenty per cent of Americans added a laptop computer to their holiday wish list. If you are looking for a laptop computer there are hundreds of different options ranging from tiny pocket-sized laptops through to state-of-the-art graphics laptops. Companies such as Sony, Toshiba, Dell and Hewlett Packard are amongst some of the best-known laptop computer brands. MacBooks are one of the most popular laptop computers, and are by USA company Apple, who also produce the world-wide phenomenon’s - the iPod and the iPhone which we shall look at next.
There are few people in the developed world who managed to escape the iPhone and iPod phenomenon’s. The iPod is a digital music player, and there are several different variations on it ranging from the iPod shuffle (the most basic version) through to more advanced iPods that play movies and can go on the internet. The iPhone is a mobile phone version of the iPod, and as well as being able to make calls, you can also use it’s in built GPS system to help you get around. Over 1 million iPods have been sold worldwide since they were first released in by US electronics giant Apple. It is not just kids who have gotten into the iPod craze, adults make up as much of the sales as the kids do. Everywhere you walk you will see someone with either an iPod or iPhone listening to their favorite tunes on the go.
Probably one of the most popular digital products around is the digital camera. Traditional film cameras are fast becoming extinct as people are making the switch to the more advanced and easy-to-use digital cameras. Digital cameras allow you the ability to view your pictures immediately after taking them and deleting them as you go along. All the photos are saved onto a memory disk inside the camera, which you can then connect to your computer to view, edit and print your photos. Many digital cameras can also record short videos too. Some of the most popular digital cameras brands available in the USA are Sony, Canon, Nikon and Olympus.
Many mobile phones also include digital cameras, such as the Blackberry. Since the first creation of a phone with a digital camera, almost five billion devices have been sold worldwide.
High up on the digital holiday wish list are games consoles such as the Nintendo Wii and the Playstation 3. The Nintendo Wii is the best selling games console at the moment, and is popular with both genders and all age groups. It has a wireless controller that can also detect movement in three dimensions. The Wii was first released in the USA in 2006 and since then over 23.54 million have been sold.
The Playstation 3 is currently the second best selling games console in the USA. One of the key features of this console is it’s ability to connect to the internet and allows the user to play games against other people from around the world. The PS3 was released in 2006 and has since sold over 5.7 million units.
The last digital USA product we shall look at in this article are GPS navigation systems. GPS systems are becoming increasingly popular in the USA, and people use them in their cars to help them get around. The user just has to input the address they are heading to and the GPS system will guide them to where they need to be using digital satellites. Clever!
